In science, there’s this concept called entropy.
It’s the idea that systems naturally move from order to disorder over time.
Everything tends to decay unless energy is put in to keep it together.
At first, it sounds like a physics concept something to do with molecules, thermodynamics, heat.
But honestly, it’s one of the most powerful mental models I’ve applied to life.
Your body? It deteriorates without consistent movement and nutrition.
Your business? Falls apart without deliberate attention to systems, communication, and momentum.
Relationships? Fade if effort isn’t applied.
Your mind? Clutters up with junk if you don’t clean it regularly.
Entropy is everywhere and the moment you forget that, you start losing things you thought were stable.
The mistake most people make is assuming things will “stay fine” if they leave them alone.
But the truth is nothing stays fine by default.
Order doesn’t maintain itself.
It requires intention. Discipline. Awareness. Energy.
So now, whenever I feel something’s drifting — a team, a routine, even my own mental clarity I ask myself:
“Where am I letting entropy take over?”
And more importantly “What am I not putting energy into that I should be?”
Because everything you care about is quietly decaying in the background…
unless you’re keeping it alive on purpose.
